Do you find yourself becoming bored with your running routine? You’re not alone. Running is one of the most monotonous forms of physical activity. Luckily for you, there are ways to spice it up. Here are five things you can try to take your next run to the next level.

1). HIIT

High intensity interval training (or HIIT) is a training method in which you alternate short bursts of high-intensity activity with longer periods of medium-intensity. For example, jog for 60 seconds, sprint for 30 seconds, and repeat that cycle throughout your run. This helps keep your heart rate up and burn more fat.

2). Have a good playlist

When it comes to running, music can make a world of difference. No matter what kind of music you like – rock, hip hop, dance, etc. – you can find pump-up songs with a fast beat that make you want to push harder and run faster.

3). Upgrade your running shoes

Running shoes need to be replaced every 300-500 miles – depending on the surface that you primarily run on. This could be as frequently as every three months for advanced runners. New shoes reduce impact with the ground and help prevent injuries, keeping you fresh for your future runs.

4). Ramp it up

If running on flat ground is too easy for you, ramp it up by running on an incline. You can take to a hill, staircase, or set of bleachers, but one thing is guaranteed – you are going to break a sweat.

5). Play a sport

Running is easier for most people when running isn’t their main goal. Playing a cardio-intensive sport such as basketball or soccer is a great way to run a lot without thinking about how much running you are actually doing.
